And Thus a Show is Born…

So let’s start off with the elephant in the room: what the heck is a variety show? Well, in the days of old, it was a type of radio show that brought together music, comedy, and banter through live performances, comedy sketches, and guest stars.

Names like Rudy Vallee and Bing Crosby probably come to mind, as they were among those who paved the way for this style of radio show way back in day. With shows like The Fleishmann Yeast Hour and The Kraft Music Hall, audiences were able to enjoy a little bit of everything during those quiet afternoons at home.

Now, you’re probably wondering, “What’s makes Gator Attack so special?” Well, aside from the fact that I, Mercedes Milner, cohost it with the equally awesome Stephen Crane, we’re taking the variety style of radio show and making it our own. With original games, skits, and personalities to offer, it’s hard to imagine a world in which we weren’t special.

Here are just a few things that you, the amazing, awesome, beautiful audience member, have to look forward to throughout the semester:

Games like The Rent is Right, where guest contestants on the show are given Craigslist descriptions of places for rent in the lovely city of San Francisco and are then able to guess on the price of rent per month.

Interactive musical entertainment like the Sing Along Showdown, where Stephen and I go head to head in a battle for the karaoke crown singing popular songs from a variety of genres live. Note that call-in requests are encouraged.

And the Murder Mystery Theater, a segment in which Stephen and I put our heads together to solve the murder of one not-so-lucky soul.

So now that you have a firm grasp on what we are, why not give us a listen on Mondays from 12pm to 1pm at KSFSmedia.net!
